Avalon Casino & Ballroom - Catalina Island
This building is an outstanding example of preservation, not only its exterior, but also its interior, especially the stunning tile murals. It has been used continuously since its construction in 1929. It features a Moorish Colonnade and a Mission tile roof.
1990 Beach Street Apartment Building - San Francisco
Built in 1931, this apartment building has been given beautiful exterior maintenance, and has been repainted in a four-color scheme to enhance its lovely floral designs. The original terra cotta ornament and front door grilles have also been preserved, as well as many other details on this Art Deco-style residence.

Lake Merritt Hotel - Oakland-Exterior & Interior Refurbishing
The Lake Merritt Hotel won an ADSC Preservation Award in 1989 for preservation of its 1929 building. During the past year, the owners have introduced a new exterior paint scheme to highlight its Deco detailing. Inside, the lobby and guestrooms have been redesigned to give them a charming, authentic flavor of the 1930s.
"Lighthouse" Neon Store Sign, San Carlos
This original Moderne sign remains in very good condition, having been maintained throughout the years. The design of the sign incorporates wonderfully jazzy Deco lightning bolts. It was built in 1921 and renovated in 1945.
State Theater Murals, Red Bluff
Built in 1945, this theater had little hope of being completed, due to the scarcity of materials during WWII. Its beautiful murals with mythological themes are being restored, and the interior has been converted back to a single-screen performing arts venue.
Cinema Grand, San Pedro
We congratulate this volunteer group for its efforts to continue the use of the Deco era Warner Grand Theater, by showing classic films and putting on Art Deco-style events. Through their support, they have increased public awareness and, as a result, tripled attendance at this theater.
The 42nd Street Moon Theater Company, San Francisco
During the Deco Era the glow from the marquees in New York's theater district was dubbed "the 42nd Street Moon." Now San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon revives musicals of the era that have been "lost" or rarely performed. They present them in concert or book-in-hand formats.
The 460 San Mateo Avenue Building, San Bruno
Built in 1940, this charming complex of shops is completely original. The facade of blue terra cotta, glass brick and aluminum makes this building an eye-catcher. The barbershop still has its original chairs and decor.
