Getting Ready for La Fiesta Grande Saturday April 26!!! This year's Art Deco Preservation Ball will have a very special theme, "La Fiesta Grande", and we invite you to throw a bit of Latin Flair into your outfit. Are you wondering What to Wear and Where to Buy It? Here are suggestions for you! Attire is "Vintage Formal"/1920s, '30s and '40s gowns (authentic vintage or newly-made but vintage-inspired) and Black Tie or White Tie for men...and Spanish Elegance is encouraged! That can be as elaborate as a long gown with layers of ruffles, a formal "mariachi" suit or a cape and gaucho hat....OR it can simply have a little touch of Latin charm. A rose tucked behind one ear, a beautiful comb, an embroidered shawl. If you have received your Sophisticate magazine, you no doubt have lots of inspiration from the lavishly illustrated articles and resources in it! But here are some Frequently Asked Questions and Info you can use! Question: Is a new tuxedo okay? And yes, of course it is...Men's formalwear has not changed all that much over the years. On the other hand, you really should consider vintage! The quality is higher, the price lower and it will never go out of style! Question: Do women wear long or short gowns? Those that find beaded 1920s style gowns do wear them shorter, but most women wear long 1930s and 1940s formal gowns to the Art Deco Preservation Ball. We expect to see lots of lace, combs and embroidered shawls this year! Our lead Fashion Sponsor is Decades at 1740 Haight Street in San Francisco.
